The Bōsō coast and the Tokyo effect

Stock is spread on both sides of the peninsula: Isumi and Chōsei on the Pacific surf coast, Kamogawa to the south-east, Futtsu and Kimitsu on the Tokyo Bay side, and a few properties in Tateyama, at the southern tip. Chiba's advantage is not Japan's lowest price, it is distance to Tokyo: a country house genuinely usable at weekends, which widens both resale and rental potential far beyond an isolated rural prefecture.

Points to watch

The Pacific coast is exposed to typhoons and tsunami risk: check the municipal hazard map and the plot's exposure before making an offer, the 2019 typhoon left lasting damage across the peninsula's building stock. Check the real transport service too (the Sotobō and Uchibō lines are slow outside express trains) and, as everywhere, the build year against the 1981 seismic standard. For short-stay rental, the national baseline applies: minpaku 180 nights, ryokan-gyo licence for 365 days depending on zoning.
